Umeå Airport is the seventh largest airport in Sweden, and is an important hub in the Norrland region. The airport’s first flight took place in December 1961, but it was inaugurated in May 1962. Since then, the airport has continued to develop in terms of both buildings and increases in passenger numbers, but also due to many airlines choosing to traffic Umeå.

Journalists at the airport
Swedavia's airports are civilian protected properties. A permit is always required to photograph and carry out press work at the airport. In order to visit the transit areas, that is the area after airport security, an escort is required. Photography is prohibited within and towards the security controls.
In the case of accidents or other unusual events, the airport may be closed for journalists. Journalists are in this case sent to designated places.
